I finished a new plug-in that now pulls all the data out of the database.  You should be able to see all the fields including artist and album that were not showing previously.

Website Status PDF Print E-mail

Friday, 29 February 2008

The repository is now fully restored to the 12/29/07 state.  If you find any files that do not work, please email This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .  At this time, we believe everything is working.  There were several files that were submitted between 12/29/07 and 2/20/08.  All these files will land in a new "lost" category shortly, because the database crash lost all the information for these files. If you submited any of these files please email This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .  Once we get the description and other information, the file(s) can be moved to the correct place in the repository.  I apologize to everyone who submitted a file during that time that lost the description.

Repository Update:
Please note that repository pages have STOPPED SHOWING information such as album and artist.  This is due to installing the latest version of the repository code from the software vendor.  All this data is still in the database.  However, I need to rewrite the patches for this new version so the pages will display this data.

Repository Submission:
This is currently disabled because the backend is not ready to accept submissions.  The code needs to be updated to accept some of the additional fields like artist and album.  In order to update the website, we deployed the latest code version from our software vendor.  However, this code is not compatible with the old plug-ins I wrote to support the extra fields.  I will have to write new code and test it before submissions can be accepted.

New Features:
Now, you are allowed to upload pictures with your submission!  Even if you submitted your file years ago, you can still edit your submission to add a picture.  Just browse to your file and click the button to update your submission.  Here, you can add pictures of your display for everyone to see.

It's a naming convention error.  I will have to manually rename each file in the database.  (The new code version appends the file ID to the name now, and the old MYSQL data I imported doesn't have this appended.)  For now, I'm dropping a new copy of the downloads into http://temporary.lightoramasequences.com. You can use this for now until I get it fixed.  Since I have work, there probably won't be much happening during the week.  Thanks, Michael

About 11:30 tonight, the repository was restored to the condition it was in on 12/29/07.  All files submitted between 12/29/07 and 2/24/08 still exist, but their descriptions and other information was lost due to the crash.  I will be making a separate container for these orphans later so hopefully they will be "claimed" by the owners and the information resubmitted.  If you see any files with no information and know who submitted them or what the description, album, artist, or what any other information is, please do not hesitate to contact us.

There is still a long way to cleanup the current directories and create a new area for LOR2.  I am still doing checks to make sure the import went OK and filesystem is healthy.  Please report any problems you encounter to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .  I will work on this in the coming weeks.  Please note there is still information and other items I that still need attending from the crash.

Please note that repository pages have STOPPED SHOWING information such as album and artist.  This is due to installing the latest version of the repository code from the software vendor.  All this data is still in the database.  However, I need to rewrite the patches for this new version so the pages will display this data.

The repository is accepting submissions, and the database is recording all the fields.  Again, the repository is not showing all the fields, but it will as soon as I have time to rewrite the code for this application.  In the meantime, submissions are accepting this information and storing it in the database properly.  I just need to rewrite the repository pages to display this information again.  Hopefully this will be coming sooner rather than later.

I never addressed the current state of the website.  You may notice many things such as missing or duplicate menu items, broken links, and the long list of debug information that appears at the bottom on the site.  All of this is natural.  The menus are being worked on, so they are a work in progress.  The broken and missing items are slowly being fixed and restored.  And the dubug information at the bottom of the site helps to troubleshoot table issues.

Crash Details PDF Print E-mail
Written by Michael Farney
Tuesday, 19 February 2008

On 2/20/08, LORsequences.com experienced a server crash.  While I won't bore you with the details, the MYSQL (database tables) for the files was completely lost.  All the MYSQL data after 12/29/07 is lost which means any submissions made to the site between 12/29/07 and 2/20/08 have lost all the texts, descriptions, and other items relating to the files.  However, the files themselves are safe.  Since the downloads portion of LORsequences is driven by this MYSQL, none of the old files will be available until I can re-add all these files by hand.  (Even though the files exist on the server, the web pages can not recognize them or find the files without all the database information being intact.)  I am currently investigating if there is a good way to "re-import" the old MYSQL database data into the new database and still have everything handle OK.   If not, I will have to add all the files to the database by hand, which will take a significant amount of time.  Your patience is appreciated.  Most of the other data is recoverable, and I'm working on getting this back online.  However, some of the content (articles) will be dropped, and other content will be moving to my personal website which is more applicable than http://LORsequences.com

All usernames should be working at this time.

The repository will accept new submissions at this time.

Changes:
Both the website and database are completely new.  The site runs off of Joomla, which is a fresh install.  I am working on moving over some of the core files I changed.  The database is also new, and I moved over some of the old data such as usernames.  None of the original content has moved yet.  For the most part, none of these articles are coming back as they are being moved to my personal website http://dunlopavechristmas.com/.  At the time of this writing, it is a brand new site that isn't up yet.  I was working on this site just prior to the LORsequences.com crash.  At any rate, I am (will) be moving over the few articles LORsequences.com needs by hand, but a lot of the old blogs and such will not resurface here.

The repository has several improvements as I installed the latest version.  This means I can not just import all the old MYSQL file data because the primary keys will not be correct.  I am investigating the best way to add the old data.  Worse case scenereo, I can do a mass import which will lose all the descriptions, authors, and other information associated with the file.  However, the files will be present.  I am hoping to avoid this.  I'll have a better idea once I get past the weekend.

Thanks,
Michael
